Description

Dolpo region is a paradise on the earth. Nature rewards this remote western part of Nepal with surprisingly amazing landscapes and stark beauty that resemble to  Roof of the world- Tibet. Most of the places the beauty of Dolpo by far surpasses the striking views of  Tibet.

The land of Dolpo is a restricted area and trekkers need to have a special trekking permit to make entry into this area. This huge area has Shey Phoksundo National Park covering 1,373 sq. km with full of flora and fauna. Trekking into this remote and agriculturally backward area requires full board tented camping service with a camping crew. There are several routes open to visit Lower Dolpo area either from Pokhara, or Jumla.

The trip begins with a -35-minute flight from Nepalgunj to Juphal. From Dunai, the district headquarters & check-post the trek route continues along the banks of Barbung Khola to Tarakote, known locally as Dzong for its hilltop fortress. Proceeding along Tarap Khola through grassy meadows, Magar villages and their gompas, the highest point of the trek Numa La (5,190m) is reached, which offers magnificent views of Dhaulagiri to the south and Tibetan ranges – Kugung La and Khyung La to the north. We find Blue Sheep, Musk Deer, Ghoral, snow Leopard, Tahr and Black Bear in the park. Ringmo is across the Baga La (5,070m), a pass surrounded by large glaciers and rock cliffs. The first view of the lake’s radiant turquoise-blue waters of Phoksundo set in a cleft between rocks that rises 2,000m into the clear mountain skies and the peaks of Kanjiroba is simply stupendous. The descending trail drops along Suli Gad river to Raha, the park entrance and finally to the hamlet of Juphal.
