Restricted Area Treks

The Department of Immigration of Nepal has categorized Upper Mustang, Upper Dolpo, Lower Dolpo, Manaslu Jumla Rara Lake, the Kanchenjunga region ( Olangchunggola, Lelep, Papung and Yamphudinand) and few others as restricted areas for trekking activity. These areas are under the control of the Department of Immigration and foreign trekkers should have a special permit to make entry into these areas. The permit can be applied only through the government-registered trekking company based in Nepal. There should be at least 2 people in a group while applying for the permit. The special trekking permit is not issued to individual trekkers to enter such areas and the trekkers must be travelled fully well- equipped with all necessary camping gear, supporting staff and food. There are several police check posts on the way to these restricted areas to check the illegal entry and if the police find the illegal entry, then the trekkers will be turned back right away. So, a special trekking permit is a must to make entry into such as restricted areas.
