After acclimatizing 2 days in Lhasa, we will drive to the west across the vast plains enjoying spectacular view of the Himalayans to the south and the Trans-Himalayans to the north. Stopping along some of Tibet’s most spiritual sites like Tashi Lhunpo, Yamdrok Lake and the Kumbum Stupa, you will gain an understanding of Buddhism’s impact on Tibet before the magnificence of Mt. Kailash is unveiled. For thousands of years, Mt.Kailash has been the pilgrimage destination for Buddhists , Bon followers, Hindus and Jain alike. Located at an altitude of 6,714 meters, Gangkar Ti-se, as it is known in Tibetan, has perennial snow cover and is the focal point of all travelers in the western Tibet. Pilgrims traveling to this sacred mountain is to complete a spiritual circuit. It is believed that completing a spiritual circuit will wash away their sins. In addition to the varied landscapes, wildlife abounds in Western Tibet. Along the route, you will be able to see herds of wild ass, gazelle, Hodgson’s antelope, marmots and different species of geese from the window of your Toyota jeep. The tour starts in Lhasa with the first day to get acclimatized with the higher altitude and another two days for sightseeing around Lhasa city, then moves on to Shigatse along the hypnotizing blue Yamdrok Lake, and through the ancient princely state of Gyantse and its wide laid fields. In Shigatse, the second largest city of Tibet is especially known for its active night life. Moving on to Lhatse the next day, starts more of the real Tibet with lesser of Chinese constructions and more of wild plains of the Tibetan Plateau and Lakes. At last the Kailash appears like a blessing for the long journey, crowded by pilgrims and locals. Our local Tibetan tour guides will take you on the three days trekking around the holy Mt. Kailash.
